MOTHERS DAY & RUINS E.P. REVIEWS

Tonight we are playing this in a shitty Winter Hill cellar, so don't be a square, come on out!.. Its Mother's Day, so dont forget to bring your old lady, ;) and tell her to bring $$$ to help send Youth Avoiders back to France!...we know you can't wait to go, so in the meantime, you can check out these recent reviews of our 'Ruins' EP!

MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL

Catchy, up-beat, melodic and melancholic pop punk from Boston, MA, featuring members of MALE NURSES and SUBCLINIX. Side A starts out with a neat thick, deep bass line and a highly infectious crazy man's riff-ideal for a night on the town. The vocals, which are well executed as everything else, have lots of emotion and attitude and i actually really like the way this transports me to the late '90s, when i was first discovering bands like PROPGANDHI, the DESCENDANTS et al. Both tracks on Side B have that sorrowful tune that punk rockers like me so love to get addicted-you know that bitter riff, the one that floods you with bittersweet memories and regret, the one that will always take you back to when you were sixteen and full of hunger for a life of forbidden fruits and delicious misery. I only wish they came up with a definitive ending, instead of fading it out. No matter, its still really good. If the angstier, more melodic Epitaph bands are your jam, and you like some straight guitar work, check this out! Now beg your pardon, I gotta go dig up my old ALKALINE TRIO records. -LA (Deranged)

RAZORCAKE

I don't know shit about guitar, but i know what sounds awesome. i know that when i hear a combination of chords that makes fireworks go off under my skin, there's something special going on, and there's definitely something special going on here. You know everything Epitaph did wrong in the '90's? The too-commerical production, the sneering and posturing, so on and so forth? It's like Casanovas In Heat does just the opposite, but holds onto the driving melodies, the pure jump-kicking energy. It's inspiring, and I'm listening to it over and over. -MP Johnson (Deranged)

                                                ALLSTON PUDDING

Local troublemakers Casanovas In Heat are kicking down the doors with the title track of their new EP. Ruins is a short slice of what the 80s influenced pop-punk group has to offer in a versatile collection of songs that sound like Husker Du fucking The Replacements.
Simply put, Davy Lyko's lyrics and catchy guitar patters are a departure from his work in even-bigger troublemakers Male Nurses, but they shine brighter than a thousand suns and sound as cool as a fresh haircut and a white Russian. The band is recording a single in the next few weeks and is still waiting on a physical copy of the 7-inch, but when it's in their greasy palms you can buy it from Deranged Records. Hey, even Con plays drums on this thing! - Matt Altieri
